Summer Camp: 2020 Edition
It’s been full steam ahead this summer for several CLEF schools which chose to hold socially distanced and safe summer camps for their students. One of these schools, St. Philip, held an innovative summer camp, Create Academy, where science, art, and technology coupled with creativity. Each week has been a specific theme including: Fabrication Fanatics: Textiles, Sizzling Circuits, Captivating Chemistry, Melodic Music Makers, Design Challenge – Boats, Design Challenge – Simple Machines, and Green Screen Movie Making. Each day campers have learned a new skill in the “Skill Lab”; investigated, designed, created, and invented in the “Makerspace”; collaborated with new friends; explored nature, played games, and had fun! St. Philip has hosted over 20 campers this summer, including many new students who will be joining us this fall.
Some camper favorites from the summer include mask and cape creations during textile week, Easter egg boats during the first design challenge, catapult creations during simple machine week, giant bubbles during captivating chemistry week and creating their own music with technology during melodic music maker week. We’ll all be sad to see Create Academy end.
A special thanks to the St. Philip staffers! The staff worked extremely hard to make sure that our students had a safe and fun place to spend their summer. They took on the cleaning, sanitizing of toys, and temperature checks – all in addition to planning an extra special summer of activities. Kudos to these incredible teachers!
