Behind the Scenes with Brookfield Zoo
For the past two years, CLEF has coordinated trips to the Brookfield Zoo for all sixth grade classes. These field trips are made possible thanks to a generous grant from The Christopher Family Foundation. Students go “behind the scenes” with zoo educators, learning about the planning of exhibits and the active preservation efforts at the zoo. Later in the day, lessons are put into practice, with observation of animal habitats.
Learning does not end at the conclusion of the day! Each attending student is eligible to receive a complimentary one-year family zoo membership, providing many opportunities to build upon what was learned with future visits, showing their parents and siblings all the zoo has to offer. CLEF is grateful to The Christopher Family Foundation for this wonderful opportunity, and to Brookfield Zoo, for delivering such a memorable experience to our students.
Young Innovators Camp
CLEF is partnering with Future Design School to host their Young Innovators Camp in Chicago. Young Innovators Camp is a week long day camp developed by entrepreneurs, software engineers, and educators. The camp equips youth with important skills and engage in real-world experiences that transform their perception of themselves and the world around them. Campers are mentored throughout the process of building prototypes and pitching solutions to bring meaningful change to the world. Young Innovators Camp exposes students to thought leaders through a global network of entrepreneurs. Throughout the program, participants develop stronger confidence in themselves as creative entrepreneurs. Sessions are held at CLEF schools in the summer, open to all students ages 10-14! Check back for more information about future camps.
