Flexibility For The 6-12 Physical Education Program At Walther (#802)

Our dream at Walther Christian Academy 6-12 school is to allow for greater flexibility in the activities we offer in our middle school and high school physical education classes. As we have a team-teaching approach within our department we try to find ways to improve our instruction along with using the equipment we have to do so. We offer a variety of sport and physical activities throughout the school year in both middle school and high school. One of the favorite activities for all ages in Badminton. Being a sport that can be played in a variety of locations such as a gym or outside, it offers the opportunity for students to continue with the enjoyment of the sport outside the school setting and hopefully for a lifetime. We currently have equipment that is well over thirty-five years old and is not as usable for what we would like to do in our classes. Our dream is to purchase new badminton nets, standards, racquets, and birdies to allow us to have great new equipment that can be used anywhere on our campus. In addition, the nets can be used to play other sports such as pickle ball and tennis. Our dream involves purchasing new portable badminton equipment that can be set up in the gym, our multi-purpose room, or outside.

To have the ability to have courts set up in multiple locations would allow us as teachers to have more flexibility in our classes for activities. Our aged equipment limits ability for us to have accurate net heights and markings on floors for regulation court sizes, this dream would allow us to have floor tape along with our new nets and standards that are self-standing to ideally be able to mark a court in a variety of locations. As physical educators, we are always looking at ways to improve the variety of activities we offer and with this dream, we can offer a more precise and fulfilling badminton experience for all of our grade levels. In addition, this new system also allows for other net activities to be played such as pickleball and tennis along with a variety of other lead-up games. If our dream of purchasing this new set of equipment is granted it will offer our physical education program greater variety in activities we teach along with improved experiences for all our 6-12 students.
