Lift The Curtain (#701)

Lift The Curtain (#701)

Since the Multipurpose Room at Walther was completed in 1996, it has truly lived up to its name, serving as a second gym, wrestling room, weight room, auditorium, classroom, and theatre. Walther’s Fine Arts Department, has a distinguished tradition of serving God’s children through instrumental and choral music, theatre, and visual arts. Nearly half of the student population participates in at least one activity within the department and they graciously share the Multipurpose Room space with the rest of the school.

While the groups within the Fine Arts Department are very resourceful, frugal, and conscientious of their blessing, there is no avoiding aging and the basic wear-and-tear of materials. Over twenty years ago, a group of volunteer parents combined their efforts to make curtains by hand to be used for concerts and theatrical productions in the room. They have been used, added to, repaired, and otherwise loved for nearly fifty shows, dozens of concerts, and countless school events, while also serving as a sound barrier between rooms and a shield for equipment. They have served Walther well, but have been patched, re-hemmed, and zip-tied beyond what they can endure to the point of being irreparable.

(Note: Our tracks and pulley system are thankfully still in decent shape, so our hope is to purchase four custom-made panels to replace/complete our travelers and back curtain using our current system.)

While curtains are obviously imperative for theatrical productions, not just for function in a performance, but for our developing technical theatre program. Additionally, the curtains will enhance all assemblies and performances at Walther by providing more pleasant aesthetics, proper sound absorption, and protection for equipment while the room is serving multiple purposes.
