3D Printing Into The Future (#506)

3D Printing Into The Future (#506)

Good Shepherd Christian Academy students will build a city that is an inclusive; where diversity and equity are paramount. The city will reflect diversity of many cultures.

3D printing is a tool for the future. This project will introduce 3D design and printing to students and help them to develop skills and confidence to effectively and safely use the technologies in meaningful ways. 3D design and printing will be framed as tools that will become part of students’ repertoire for solving problems and developing designed solutions in building their city. Students will learn how to navigate and manipulate 3D design software (Makers Empire) and create objects such as buildings, homes, skyscrapers, bridges and other models that can be 3D printed. They will be given scaffolded opportunities to use the 3D design software to develop their spatial abilities and conceptual understanding of the 3-dimensional environment. This introduction to 3D design and 3D printing will become the foundation of an authentic project-based learning experience where students use these skills and tools to develop solutions to bring clean water to areas of the world that lack that resource. The final product, a city, will be a 3D printed. Students will develop prototypes, respond to feedback and evaluate the success of their designs. The skills obtained from learning how to use 3D printer in a diverse manner will prepare students for high school, college, and beyond.
