Mix, Mismatch, Mangled And Jumbled Toys (#901)

The “Learning Environment” is considered to most teachers, directors, and students as the third teacher. Therefore, it is also a crucial part of any school/center/classroom.

A “Learning Environment” should be at most interesting and welcoming. It can also encourage and foster learning, creativity, exploration, imagination, plus provoke thinking and open-ending outcomes. In addition, it can help support the development of language, eye-hand coordination, fine/gross motor skills and helps lengthen a child’s attention span. Therefore, the “Learning Environment” stimulates the “whole” child’s development and growth. One way to improve and enrich the “Learning Environment” is to provide children with materials that encourages learning through play and materials that will provide learning opportunities.

In our center we started, two years, an in-take and pick-up area. Materials in this area were just put together by teachers from classrooms. However, these are materials that were unwanted and considered impractical for the class. In addition, some of the materials had missing and broken pieces; and some materials just had enough but not enough to consider it as a set. Moreover, some of the materials in this area are as old as several grandparents in our school.

The fulfillment of the dream can enhance the quality of our school in ONE major way and that is the improvement and enrichment of the “Learning Environment,” in our in-take and pick-up area. Thus, helps stimulate the growth of a child in all domains and facilitates the development of the “whole” child.

This is the beginning of improving the “Learning Environment” in our in-take and pick-up area. We want this area to be an extension of a classroom where children can flourish and grow as an independent, and critical thinking young child. Therefore, the fulfillment of this dream is just the beginning of establishing an environment where children can grow, mature and develop.
