We “Loft” To Read (#703)

I would like to add a loft to our classroom to increase the useable area within it and give students new opportunities both physically and socially. The loft would allow us to create new play and learning prospects with each new unit and study.

By fulfilling my dream and adding a loft to our classroom I would be able to increase the versatile space that my students have to create, play and socialize. Not only does the loft give us valuable space, extra storage and visual interest to an unused classroom corner it also can be used to challenge my students physically. It would help children develop their gross motor skills and spacial awareness while learning within the classroom by climbing and interacting in a raised environment. Children are inherent risk takers, even in today’s safety aware environment, so it’s important to ensure that our students are given the space and freedom to develop their core skills in a controlled setting. The use of a loft in the classroom brings with it great new opportunities for social play and learning. This space can be used to expand our library, creating a new dramatic play environment, or even an art gallery. The loft would also allow our classroom to have a dedicated area for students to go when they need to self-regulate or solve problems. This loft is a dream that would help enrich my classroom and our school for years to come.
