Fire Up (#302)

Fire Up (#302)

We are creating a maker-space/STEAM Lab/ which will be a place where students can be creative. Clay that needs firing is a process that requires not only creativity but knowledge of science, the ability to critically think and much more. A kiln can be installed in our facility safely and used by our students, staff and community. That is the vision for the maker-space/STEAM Lab that we are in the process of assembling. It will be a place for our students to create and also where community members can come and do the same. A kiln will be another tool for expanding our curriculum and our presence in the community.

Twenty first century learning skills include:Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration & Communication. All of these skills are a part of creating with clay, using glaze on the clay and the firing process of ceramics. While building with clay, students learn to figure out solutions to problems, think critically about form, function, scale, color and three dimensional objects. Clay is one medium that promotes creativity, promote self-confidence, and encourages self-expression.
